About this map
This tracker plots 1,757 data center facilities across the United States and Canada. Each point is a real, mapped facility — from multi-gigawatt AI campuses to single-building colocation sites.
Where the data comes from
Locations are sourced from OpenStreetMap, the open geographic database, used under the ODbL licence. We de-duplicate facilities, assign each one to its state or province, and refresh the dataset regularly. Some facilities are unpublished or under construction, so the true totals are higher than any public map can show — treat these numbers as a verified floor, not a ceiling.
Why data centers matter right now
Training and running AI models has set off the largest data-center construction boom in history. Where these facilities get built decides where billions in investment, thousands of jobs, and gigawatts of electricity demand land next. This site tracks that build-out.

Which US state has the most data centers?
Virginia — with 389 mapped facilities, nearly double second-place Texas (202). Northern Virginia's Loudoun County is known as "Data Center Alley," the densest cluster of data centers in the world.
How many data centers are in the United States?
This map tracks 1,682 mapped facilities in the US. The real number is higher — some sites are unpublished, secret, or still under construction. Analyst estimates for all US data centers (including small private server rooms) run into the thousands.
Who operates the most data centers?
Amazon Web Services leads this dataset with 239 facilities, followed by Digital Realty (78), Google (71), Microsoft (60), Meta (60) and Equinix (55).
How is an AI data center different from a normal one?
AI data centers are built around GPU clusters that draw far more power per rack — often 5–10× a traditional facility — and usually need liquid cooling. That is why the new AI campuses cluster near cheap power: hydro in Quebec and Oregon, gas and wind in Texas, nuclear in the Midwest.
