Hyperscaler or colocation — what's the difference?
Hyperscalers (Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Meta) build data centers to run their own clouds and platforms — you use their services, not their buildings. Colocation and wholesale providers (Equinix, Digital Realty, QTS, and the rest) rent space, power and cooling to anyone — from a single rack to an entire hall. The AI boom is filling both: hyperscalers build training campuses, and colocation providers lease overflow capacity to the same clouds.

All of them. The hyperscalers (AWS, Microsoft, Google, Meta) are building dedicated AI training campuses, while wholesale developers like Vantage, QTS and CyrusOne lease entire buildings to those same clouds for AI capacity.
Which data center companies can I buy space from?
The colocation and wholesale providers: Equinix, Digital Realty, QTS, Flexential, NTT, CyrusOne, CoreSite, Lumen, CenterSquare, Switch and Vantage. The hyperscalers don't rent physical space — you buy their cloud services instead.
